About this course
This course is the operational capstone of the SAR track: instead of detecting one flood on one date, you build a standing system that knows a basin's chronic flood-risk zones from six years of history and can react to a new event within days of it happening, translating a raw radar signal into a population-at-risk number a disaster management office can actually act on.
What you'll learn
- Build a 6-year historical SAR flood-frequency composite and interpret what the frequency value means
- Detect active inundation from the most recent Sentinel-1 acquisition
- Overlay a flood mask with community population data to compute population at risk
- Generate 4-tier risk zone maps (Safe / Watch / Warning / Emergency)
- Export FloodWatch-compatible GeoJSON alert payloads ready for an SMS gateway or dashboard
Requirements
- SAR Processing for Flood Mapping
- Familiarity with the pygeovision client API
